Inheritance between Thai/Farang
Hello Khun Meechai,
My wife and i have some questions to ask you about Thai inheritance. I am a UK citizen, my wife is Thai, we have a baby daughter (Thai/UK citizen).
Our house and land are all in the name of my wife. If my wife dies what happens to the land? I am a foreigner, so can't own land in my own name.
I have been told i should write a will stating that all my assets in Thailand (bank accounts, stocks) should be inherited by my wife. If i do this will it be easy for my wife to get access to my Thai assets when i die? What paperwork would she have to produce to get the money in my Thai stock broking account and Thai bank accounts on my death?
If my wife and I were both to die whilst my daughter is still a minor, is it possible for us to nominate a guardian for her? Could this guardian be a Farang, ie my brother?
If my wife was to die before me, even though as a farang i cannot own land, would it be possible to ensure that i can still live in our house for the rest of my life?
Thanks in advance for the answers to all these questions.
Geoffrey Middle, Kansiree Middle and baby Emily.
